I am a fan of eating.
My enthusiasm for cooking began with a curiosity about math, and my mother taught me fractions using measuring cups. Before I was ten I was the family baker, eager to make sure my siblings and I were well supplied with sweets.
In my twenties I finally got curious about cooking savories, and in my thirties, inspired by managing a farmers’ market and starting a garden, I got interested in local eating.
In my forties, I started following flour back to the field, and diving deeply into my obsession with pancakes. Chelsea Green is publishing my book, The New Bread Basket: How the New Crop of Grain Growers, Plant Breeders, Millers, Maltsters, Bakers, Brewers, and Local Food Activists Are Redefining Our Daily Loaf.
I also write fiction and nonfiction. Some of my writings are at www.amyhalloran.net
